Art and Healing Exhibit

Art and Healing Exhibit

An exhibition inspired by art’s healing potential. While art is not medicine, it can promote healing through inspiration and creativity. The process of creating can be calming and meditative. It can offer ways to express one’s emotions and find ways to talk about traumatic events, illness, upheavals but also joy and triumph. Art can express and communicate what sometimes is hard to put into words. It can also harness the power of healing that is in all of us. Creativity promotes a positive outlook and offers a pause from the daily routine.

We Create Diamonds Exhibit at the Nave Gallery

First time showing my piece, “Torch.”

Theme: Pressure creates diamonds…

Threats to democracy are rising. Free speech is in jeopardy and the arts censored. The call to act has never been louder.

“We Create Diamonds” is a call to the creative community in response to the wide-spreading events sweeping the nation. With each day, we seem to be facing a new hardship — as well as pre-existing ones — that push us as a society to the limit of what we as a people can endure.

But despite these setbacks, the people have put pressure to advocate for change. This glimmer of resistance has become a beacon of hope, reminding us of what is important and allowing us to shine through even brighter than before.

How do we create diamonds? Our common unity, a deep and searing passion for a better and brighter future, is our strength not to simply endure, but to stand our ground and outlast all that is stacked against us. With the ever-growing pressure and uncertainty of what the future holds, we know one thing is for certain — the harder they push back, the brighter we shine.

Spaces for You and Me Art Pop-Up

This exhibit asks you to consider who exemplifies comfort and connection, as well as the spaces for that - both home spaces, and third spaces. Sociologist, Ray Oldenburg, coined the term “third places” in his book The Great Good Place (1989). This term refers to the spaces outside of the home (first place) or work (second place) environments that help to strengthen our sense of community. Third places are locations to embrace the present, exchange ideas, share a laugh, and build relationships. These physical spaces promote social cohesion, comfort, and a sense of community where conversation and connection is the main activity. Coffee and tea houses, ale houses, biergartens, and other establishments of the sort are common third places throughout history and the world where people embrace one another and carve out space, time, and opportunity for human interaction.
